When Chi town and New York meet.

This weekend was rather exciting! I had the pleasure of doing a photo shoot with the amazingly talented Bee Harris, an LA based stylist from Chi town. Bee has gained a loyal fan base through her Instagram page (@_beeharris) for her unique sense of style. I think the best words to describe her style would be a combination of chill and trendy with a little bit of sass. Check out her page and see for yourself!

All of the looks in this post are styled and modeled by Bee Harris, Photography and Makeup art by Elena Lavache (me).

We had so much fun on Saturday that we decided to do another look on Sunday! This time around we shot during the day, so we had natural day light which really made a big difference in our photos. We found some random wall with posters all over it and it was the perfect background to compliment this look.

IMG_1690 (2)Look Number 2: Stay Weird. This look was very fun, edgy, cool and overall exciting to work on for the both of us. My personal favorite of the two looks!

Sweet & …

IMG_5143Natural Curly hair, natural looking makeup and … freckles. Yup! I gave myself freckles. I adore women with freckles, its such a cute playful feature. I absolutely loved it! I felt super cute lol. (Freckles = cuteness). I was going for cute, nerdy, sassy. Yea, that’s about right!

Who doesn’t love glasses and pearls? Two of my favorite accessories ❤

About my makeup: Eyes- e.l.f  neutral eye shadow palette, Coastal Scents gel eyeliner in JAVA (also used for freckles), Urban Decay eye shadow primer potion and lashes (doll), Mac cosmetics studio sculpt lash mascara. Face- Revlon Color stay Foundation for combination/oily skin, Coastal Scents camouflage palette concealer and contour blush palette. Lips: Matteseelite lip liner in POPPY, Toofaced melted liquified long wear lipstick in melted nude, NYX butter gloss on top. Eyebrows- NYX auto eyebrow pencil in EP04 Brown.

I used a gradient here for a different effect.

For the second look below I added some black eye shadow (elf neutral eye shadow palette) onto the outer corner of my eyes along with Sephora creme lip stain in Red. At last I threw on my Red “LaLa” wig. And what’d ya know? A whole different look while pretty much keeping the same basic makeup on.

I love red hair!!! I had magenta two years ago and I felt so fun and vibrant everyday. After doing this shoot I may go back to my red. ❤

I had also changed my outfit along with the red hair look but I didn’t take a picture of the outfit. I really just wanted to show how you can play around with the same makeup look by adding and taking away from the original look as well as using props.

The background art is an original canvas painting that I had made a few years ago. So I photo-shopped myself into the art.

Background art painted by me.

Curly curls and lipstick

curl1Funky and dramatic makeup looks happen to be my favorite, however this is usually my go to look (minus the false lashes). I’m usually rushing to go somewhere so I don’t have the extra time to put into creating different looks like I would like to. I keep it simple on a daily basis because it works best for me in terms of wear-ability, maintenance, and time.

What am I wearing? On my eyes I used Coastal Scents Ultimate 252 eye shadow palette. I chose to use both gold and white. I have on Urban Decay false lashes and Mac cosmetics black track eyeliner. On my eye brows I’m using Anastasia Beverly Hills eyebrow wiz. On my lips is a mixture of Mac cosmetics (Cyber) lipstick with Cailyn Art tinted lip gloss. As for my skin I’m using Smashbox 15 hour long wear foundation and Coastal Scents camouflage palette for concealer. I did a light contour using Coastal Scents Contour/Blush palette. All makeup was applied using brushes from Coastal Scents.

Note: Coastal Scents is a great inexpensive company to purchase from when you are starting your makeup kit. The quality is pretty good and very pigmented allowing you to have a beautiful and long lasting look just like any high end product would give you.

115About my hair: My hair is naturally super curly and frizzy so I had used a leave in conditioner called Parnevu along with a small amount of coconut oil. I combed it throughout my hair while it was wet and let it air dry. Then I flipped my head over and shook it out a little and Voila! If you have me on Facebook or Instagram (@thiscraftychic) then you’ve probably already seen some of these photos before a few months back. I originally took these for this blog but I never posted it until now (Shame on me). I was a little shy about having myself model out these looks but I just stopped caring and decided to go through with it. After all you are your best product!

m1And here goes my last pose. This look was super simple as mentioned above. This works for both a good day and night time look. The overall look can be dressed up or down based on the color of lipstick. I originally did this look for the fall season which is why I chose warm tones on my entire face. I wanted the purple-ish color lip to give you that extra pop of fall like beautiful fall leaves. I was very satisfied with the outcome.

Side Note: My top is from H&M basics and my necklace hmm… I don’t know the brand but I purchased it for like $5 at a sample sale. (Major steal)

Feeling Wiggy ;P

Processed with Moldiv

This is my self experiment dress up shoot. Lately I’ve been feeling blue lips so this was my first attempt. Not bad for a first try right? Shoot, I like it. There wasn’t exactly a theme to this look, I just kinda grabbed items from my closet that I felt would coordinate.

wiggy bg

On my lips: Illamasqua colouring pencil -Eye crayon Yeux : (Debonair) on the outline and outer area of my lips. I used Nyx sky pink lipstick in the center and blended it out. (Note: Most of my photos were taken with my iPhone so yes I did do some color touch ups where it was needed, but the true color is in the first picture posted where the blue is a deeper tone.) On my eyes: My lids I used (topaz) from the Amrezy eye shadow palette and LBD under my eye. My eyeliner used was from Nicka K shimmer eyeliner in Blue. My natural lashes using Mac cosmetics studio sculpt mascara.  On my face: Smashbox foundation, Coastal Scents camouflage palette and contour blush palette . Eyebrows: Nyx auto eyebrow pencil in brown.

What am I wearing? Head piece from Forever21. Wig came from some store in downtown Manhattan. Necklace was from a sample sale so I’m not too sure of the brand. High rise shorts from American Apparel. Knee high boots are from Aldos.Processed with Moldiv

This was super fun. I will be posting more random dress up looks because it is a huge part of me and my everyday life and I had so much fun with it. I hope you enjoyed reading 🙂

Oh, so you want support? Have you given any?

This is not exactly something I wanted to address but a recent situation really irritated me to the point where I felt I needed to voice my opinion on this topic. If you’ve read my previous post then you are already aware that I am an artist. This is the first time in my life where I’ve really focused on pursuing a career as an independent artist. Prior to this year I was in college so I didn’t have the time or money to invest into my talent the way I wanted to. So now here I am 9 months later from graduating college and I made the decision to focus on my art. I want to perfect my technique and skills and I want to start my own handmade accessories company.

In the process of growing as an artist you want and need as much support as you can get. Now, when I mention support, I’m not necessarily speaking about people giving you money. There are many different ways that you can support someone, for example: shout outs through social media, sharing post, attending events, keeping in contact, basically any actions that are genuine and beneficial to a person. I guess I’m writing this because I expect fair treatment, after all the saying is “treat people how you want to be treated.”

There are quite a few different types of artist that I know and have watched them grow from the start to where they currently are. These artist are people that I’ve been “supporting”  by choice for years now and some of them I’ve even grown great bonds with but for some reason the support has never been reciprocated. The same people that claim they love your work and believe in you are the majority of the people who lack support toward you. My actions have always been genuine because I really do want to see everyone grow and succeed at what they want to do. At times when money is super tight for me, I will still make a donation or when I should be home working on me, I will still make it my duty to come out to an event and show support. I’m not asking for pity but I do believe in giving back and there’s nothing wrong with that.

We as artist are all in a hustle until we reach our point of success and the same way we want all this support, we should be willing to give some support as well. And it should come from your heart. I have art, I have products, I have bills, and I have feelings too. Point of my rant is lend a helping hand for a change,  have a heart and be willing to give back. RANT OVER.

Worst Blogger in the world/ update

I started this blog in September of 2014 and I thought I would be able to commit to it because I really do have a lot of great ideas and just random knowledge that I’m sure would be useful to a lot of people but to be honest I’m not a writer. I’ve never been a great writer although I do enjoy creative writing. I wanted this blog to be a tool to keep me on my feet and to document my new and current journey living in LA. So if you’re reading this, thank you and I’m sorry for slacking on this blog. Starting now, I am pushing myself to do at least 1-2 blogs per month just to keep myself disciplined in my craft, my life and my goals.

Here’s an update:  I finally have adjusted to LA my new home, although I’ve experienced some moments of being homesick, I think I’ve realized that I’m definitely in the right place. I am exactly where I want to be. Throughout the past 5 months I’ve struggled with loneliness, depression, financial crap and a lot of self doubt because things have not been moving as quickly as I expected. I don’t know why but I always have some type of vision in my head and in reality it never plays out the same way and I end up disappointed and still after 24 years of knowing this I still stupidly expect for my vision to one day properly play out.

Anyways, I am currently still trying to make a living through my art. I feel like I am very talented and I definitely have the skills, talent and passion to make this goal happen but it’s definitely hard. I never realized how much work and time goes into working for yourself. I’ve thought about getting the typical 9-5 but lets be real, it’s not for me. Jobs that make me feel restricted in my schedule really make me miserable and after years of working jobs I’ve hated I refuse to go back into the same routine just to make a buck. I know that my exposure or “moment of success” will come when the time is right, and I won’t stop til I get to that moment. And when I get there I’m going to be so grateful because it will be something that I know I worked hard for and that it will be well worth all the hard work.

Now for an artistic update, well, I’ve been continuing my Human Monster morph series. I’ve gotten a few commission pieces done for the holidays which was great! Recently, I decided to branch out onto painting on any thing and everything I feel I could turn into something beautiful. For a start, I was given a free mini table set by my neighbor and it was used, but in good enough condition to be jazzed up, so I started painting my table set. I feel a little nervous about it because this scale is new to me but so far I think it’s coming out beautifully. I can’t wait to see how it turns out. Aside from my table, I also have some other furniture I plan to touch up but first I will complete the table and see how everything goes from there. One thing at a time. At last, I recently had an idea to do a fun series that I’ve never touched and is totally out of my comfort zone but I think it will be a great hit. I don’t want to announce what it is yet but for a hint it would be something that most would probably want to collect, so stay tuned for that. Also, I now have a few of my art pieces available in prints and a variety of products, you can view them all at http://www.society6.com/misslavache. And if you ever have any feedback and thoughts I’d love to read them! Thank you for reading and until next time 🙂  -thiscraftychic
